Dr. La Keita D, Carter, a native of Baltimore, MD, is the proud owner of the Institute for HEALing, LLC. Practicing since 2009, Dr. Carter's therapy specialties are women's issues; trauma and crisis management; sexual health and wellness; addictions; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) barriers in treatment; and relationship issues. She also enjoys psychoeducational testing for learning disabilities and learning giftedness and psychological evaluations for employment and surgeries. Her professional specialties include the supervision of budding counselors and psychologists and psychology administration.​​


Dr. Carter has been the recipient of dozens of awards for her work in the mental health community and beyond. In 2021 and 2022, Dr. Carter was recognized in Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record and a Leader in Diversity by the Baltimore Business Journal, respectively.


She is an international presenter on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics as well as mental health issues, having presented at the Maryland Psychological Association Annual Conference, Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, Maryland Behavioral Health Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Baltimore City College High School, Jack & Jill of America, Inc., Roberta's House, and Association for Psychology Training Clinics Annual Conference (San Juan, PR). She has also authored two psychology textbooks.​
